"Walking the place, and

making the place"

My landscapes are local abstract improvisations. They are constructed with media direct from their location, along with other added found pigments and grounds I have collected and processed over the time of this practice. There is sand, slate, clay, ground and crushed rock, charcoal, ash, ocher and sap. I also use found material and objects, fragments of glass, pottery, metal, and anything I can render into the surface of the paintings.

I use these materials as a literal and physical reference to their place, to enhance the sensory properties the landscape or subject itself may project through the very surface of the paintings.
